Description
Ethiopia Yirgacheffe
YIRGACHEFFE, ADADO Yirgacheffe is not only home to some of the most highly sought-after coffees in the world, but it’s also the birthplace of Arabica! Arabica coffee plants grew wild and flourished in Yirgacheffe before it grew anywhere else in the world. As a result, Yirgacheffe’s climate is the ultimate climate for Arabica coffee. All the things the coffee industry seeks elsewhere - high altitudes, nutrient-rich soil, adequate rainfall, warm days and cool nights - are here in Yirgacheffe. Once grown, there is no better place for these beans to be processed than at the quality-focused Adado Washing Station. This coffee is truly the blueprint for the original phenomenal cup. Adado is located at around 7000 feet above sea level, in a mountainous region. The area is characterised by lush vegetation and is typically considered a “true forest” zone. These highlands offer the Gedeo people the opportunity to farm two main crops: coffee and enset. The cool temperatures at these altitudes allow for a longer maturation process, resulting in a fuller, richer, and more pronounced flavour. Washed coffees from this district is so well-known and sought-after that Yirgacheffe itself is considered its own micro-region. The majority of coffees grown in Yirgacheffe are local landrace varieties ( Ethiopian heirloom) or from the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre (JARC). JARC is an important research centre for Ethiopia and provides disease resistant varieties that also preserve cup quality. This exquisite Yirgacheffe has a delicate and aromatic profile with distinct notes of Earl Grey tea and bergamot, lending a light floral cup and slightly citrusy nuance. This is complemented by the juicy sweetness of ripe peach, adding smooth and sweet depth.
