Description
Honduras El Paraiso
COHUNDOCAFE, EL PARAISO This season we proudly present a 100% Caturra coffee from our long time friends and partners, COHONDUCAFE in El Paraiso. This specific lot is of a higher altitude for the region (reaching 1,400 m.a.s.l.) with a relatively high temperature of 16–22.5°C. Considering this ideal microclimate in addition to El Paraiso’s reputation for producing high-quality coffees, and the result is a truly special harvest. Having visited their farms within the last two years we have seen first hand the effort COHUNDUCAFE puts in to support their farmers at El Paraiso. The foundation has three main support factors: Social Responsibility, Technical assistance, and Gender Equality. The COHUNDOCAFE foundation contributes consistently to the construction of schools in rural areas, and the delivery of educational kits to students. They supply training and advice to the local coffee growers all year round, providing equipment to support the agricultural quality of smaller farms and making sure women are integrated and valued throughout the entire coffee supply chain. It is only in more recent years that coffee production in Honduras has reached specialty levels comparable to other Central American countries, but specialty roasters are responding with enthusiasm. We predict an explosive increase of interest for Honduran coffee as it continues to make its name in the global market. Microlots such as this one are at the spearhead of this movement. This coffee offers a rich and complex flavour profile, with bold notes of black plum and red grape, complemented by a deep, treacly sweetness.
